Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Carepoint's COVID-19 information page has been created to provide information for our patients in regards to managing the current pandemic.
The NHS and Public Health England (PHE) have put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff whilst ensuring services are available as normal

1. Symptoms management
Please do not book a GP appointment or attend your GP Practice if:

You think you might have coronavirus
-
You have a fever (over 37.8) OR have a new continuous cough OR loss of/change in smell or taste. (18.05.2020)

You must self isolate (including from members of your household who do not need to self isolate) for 14 days
-
You can self certify for 7 days
-
You can return to work after 14 days (even if the cough is still present) unless you have a fever or feel worse.

You have been in close contact with someone with coronavirus
If you become unwell whilst self isolating you must contact 111 for advice (online coronavirus service or call 111 if you need to speak to someone). Call 999 if you believe your symptoms are severe & life threatening.

2. Diabetic Patients
Diabetics are not more likely to catch coronavirus, however if they do, it may cause more severe symptoms & complications.

4. Anti Inflammatory Medications
For patients who have confirmed COVID-19 or believe they have COVID-19 Paracetamol is advised to be used in preference to NSAIDs (Ibuprofen). Those currently on NSAIDs for other medical reasons (e.g. arthritis) should not stop them.
5. ACEi or ARB medications
There have been several reports/statements for patients on ACEi or ARB medications & their effects on COVID-19.

6. Paracetamol OTC Supply
Currently NHS England are assuring us that there are no supply issues with Paracetamol preparations from suppliers.
GPs should only consider prescribing paracetamol to patients who require treatment for a long term condition (e.g. regular pain relief for chronic arthritis). For Care Home patients, this would be an exception.
7. Travel Guidance
Carepoint is unable to provide letters or certificates to travel insurance companies supporting requests for refunds by patients who, without any significant medical illness, cancel their travel plans.

The government has announced testing patients for COVID-19. Patients are able to self-refer themselves to be tested if they meet the criteria listed on the government website below.

12. Face Coverings (Mandatory Face Masks)
The government has announced mandatory face coverings to be worn for the full duration of journeys on the public transport network, including inside stations. Face coverings have also been made mandatory in shops.
Some patients are exempted from wearing masks. Please find more information here regarding the excluded criteria & a face covering exemption card.

16. Flu Vaccinations for ages 50 - 64
Please note that people in the 50-64 year old age group will not be vaccinated until November and December, providing there is sufficient vaccine, and no appointments will be offered for this age group until then. This is to ensure that those who are most at risk are vaccinated first. If you are 50-64 and you are in one of the other groups which is eligible for the flu vaccination, for example you have a health condition which puts you at risk from the flu, you will be invited earlier.
Please also note that GPs are not to vaccinate this age group until the clinically at risk have been done This means that no 50-64 year old (other than those who are in the clinical at risk group) should be invited to attend for a vaccine until there is confirmation from the national team that there is vaccine supply for this group.

17. Shielding Patients - (November/December)
'Shielding' employment support has stopped as of August 2020. GP letters for the workplace are no longer available. Patients who wish to work from home need to discuss this with employers & not with the GP practice / clinician.
GPs will not be writing letters for patients to give to employers or other third patients in regards to shielding if they have not been found as clinically vulnerable. Any patients who have been found as clinically extremely vulnerable or are over the age of 70 should continue to be careful and follow advice from NHS online. We will only bring in patients to see the GP as a face to face if it is clinically necessary & appropriate.
